Threading a lace through a shape and fixing it neatly to a baseboard requires concentration, dexterity, good coordination, and excellent fine motor skills. Selecting pieces and placing them on the baseboard so they make a regular pattern is even more demanding, and spotting shapes that can be positioned to be symmetrical is the ultimate challenge. This board will be in constant use with children who will want to learn how to thread and sew.

They will want to create their unique patterns, and as they become more proficient, they will find the process increasingly rewarding. In addition, children will learn the names of the colours and the names and properties of the shapes. With four large yellow triangles, four small green triangles, four light blue circles, four red squares, two dark blue rectangles and two burgundy-coloured semicircles, there is plenty of scope for open-ended designs.
