The Solar System Learning Board depicts the Sun at the centre, with the eight planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune) orbiting it. Mercury is closest to the Sun, and Neptune is the farthest.
Children can see the correct order in which they appear, their relative size and colouring, their distance from the sun, and where the Earth fits into the picture. Each planet’s name and image appear at the bottom of the board, and a touch button illuminates it in the bigger solar system schematic.
When the Earth button is touched, the Earth illuminates, showing it rotating around the sun simultaneously as the moon revolves around the Earth. This is the first solar system learning tool to spark the interest of many budding astronomers.
