Frequently Asked Questions

How do I determine the correct weight to use?

We have many weighted blankets in stock that are reasonably standard weight. By standard weight, we put approximately 40 grams or more of poly pellets in each pocket, depending on the size of the blanket and the ultimate weight. This is shown on the pricing page. Occupational Therapists usually recommend 10% plus 500 grams of body weight.

What if I want my blanket heavier?

No problem. We can make your blanket to your requested weight. Check with your occupational therapist about the right weight. We charge $5.00 for the standard weighted blankets.

What size blanket is the right size?

Single blankets are typically 40” x 70” and will fit a child aged 4-6 years old to an average-sized adult. Large lap blankets are 40” x 40” and work as small blankets for the bed or lap; they are great for travelling. Small lap blankets, measuring 22” x 22”, are ideal for children to help with sitting and concentrating.

What is used inside the blankets?

We use poly pellets for weight. They are hypoallergenic and non-toxic. Frequently used in children's toys, they are safe products. The pellets are sewn into four layers of fabric to prevent leakage and maintain an evenly weighted blanket.

What type of material do you use?

We prefer to use 100% cotton fabrics, but are happy to make them with cotton or all flannel on request. Each blanket has four layers of material, so we selected lightweight materials to prevent the blanket from becoming too hot. The point of the blanket is weight, not warmth.

What shipping service do you use?

We currently use Australia Post, Startrack, and Aramex couriers; we have chosen the most cost-effective option for you.

How do you wash your blankets and wraps?

Machine wash separately in warm or cold water on a gentle cycle. Although the blankets can be tumble-dried on a low setting, due to their weight, we believe the wear and tear on your dryer may be excessive, so we recommend line drying instead. If your blanket has bright colours that might run, wash the first time in cold water with 1 cup of salt to set the colours. For flannel, use fabric softener or add 1 cup of white vinegar to the rinse water to soften the flannel and help remove pilling.
